What is Sinus Lifting Operation?

Sinus lifting operation is a very specific operation to add bone in implant surgery.

Sinus lifting operation is the process of adding bone powder to the cavity created by raising the sinus membrane and grafting. Sinus surgery is basically performed with two methods; The first is the closed sinus lifting technique and the other is the open sinus lifting technique. The anatomical spaces located near our molars in our upper jaw are called maxillary sinuses; The task of these cavities is to provide sound formation and to relieve the pressure exerted by the head weight. With the sagging of these sinus cavities, the bone structure in the region is lost over time.

In order to eliminate this situation, which is unsuitable for implant treatment, adding bone powder to the space created by raising the sinus membrane and performing the grafting process is called sinus lifting. The term lifting is used because the sinus floor is positioned higher and a lifting process is performed.

Sinus Lifting Application
Sinus lifting operation is basically performed with two methods; The first is the closed sinus lifting implant technique and the other is the open sinus lifting implant technique. In the closed technique sinus lifting (krastel) operation, bone is added during the placement of the implant in the area. The closed technique is similar to the laparoscopic technique. Laser technique is used during the operation; Bone is added to the area to be added from another region. We generally recommend the closed technique by evaluating the condition of the case clinically.

In the open technique sinus lifting (vesturbilel) operation, local anesthesia is applied first. In the open technique, a surgical incision is also made from one area; The sinus area is lifted to the required extent and grafting is performed with the addition of bone powder to the formed cavity. The surgical site is then closed. The total duration of the sinus lifting procedure varies between 30 minutes and 45 minutes.

After Sinus Lifting
After Sinus Lifting Operation
Since a bone is added to the area after the procedure, there will be a healing process for the fusion of the additional structure and other tissues. Some measures that should be implemented immediately after the operation will ensure a healthier and more comfortable recovery from this healing process. These measures can be listed as follows:
Prescribed medications should be taken.
A cold compress should be applied to the area to prevent swelling after the procedure. Important if tampons are recommended.
If recommended, it should not be blown for at least four weeks. In cases where sneezing should be avoided, it should not be sneezed without blocking it by keeping the airway open.
It is extremely important to apply a tampon to the area for half an hour by biting the gauze after the surgical procedures.
Extreme sports should be avoided for at least a month and the use of wind instruments should be suspended.
No smoking for at least two weeks.
The stitches will be removed at the end of the first week.
